Baghdad, Iraq: Two car bombs exploded close to three Iraqi government buildings on October 25, 2009, killing at least 130 people. It was considered to be the most damaging attack in the country in more than two years. It was expected that more than 500 people were killed.

Quetta: After a shooting incident, Baluchistan Education Minister Shafique Ahmed Khan was shot dead in a motorcade ambush. The tragic event took place on Toghi road while the minister was on his way home. Gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on the minister. Two bullets were believed to have been shot through his chest and throat.

Literacy is by default the most important factor in any effort towards development and evolution. Many experts believe that this is the real reason why some of the countries of the so called third world, or some countries in Asia, such as Pakistan, are left behind when it comes to real and staggering development. According to the statistics, Pakistan has made some steps forward trying to educate its children, but still there is an impressive number of 13 million children that do not receive any education and instead work or hard labor jobs or even in the streets, being completely or almost illiterate.

Sometimes, when I listen to some young people talking, I wonder how they would ever manage if the internet was suddenly spirited away and they had to learn to live without it. My generation grew up without the benefit of the internet – or even computers. The highlight of young people’s social lives then revolved around getting together in each others’ homes, listening to music together and chatting. While I certainly don’t advocate returning to those days [I enjoy the internet as much as anybody, despite my generation] – the internet, blessing or pain does need to be carefully monitored to ensure that only appropriate data is accessed by the most vulnerable people.
